The "Kakehi" (Bamboo Fountain) is a waterspout consisting of a vertical bamboo pipe in which the internal part of each node (joint) has been bored out to accept a plastic hosepipe. At the head of the vertical bamboo pipe a "Komagshira" or scorched timber joint is drilled out to accept the vertical and horizontal bamboo pipes.
The "Kakehi" has a number of uses, including feeding water into a stone water basin or to trickle water into the end of a Deer Scarer. It can simply be used on its own as a water fountain to pour water into a stream or pond and creates an interesting feature in any water garden setting or Koi pond.
Our "Kakehi" are supplied ready to install into your garden. Complete with internal plastic hose, the outlet hole for the plastic hose in the vertical bamboo has not been bored out. The position for this hole has to be decided on each individual installation, and the depth of the vertical pipe is set into the ground. We recommend a hole saw be used of about 1" diameter.
All cut ends and holes of the bamboo may be sealed with matt polyurethane varnish to prevent water ingress into the fibres which will cause surface discolouration. |
