Winter Koi Pond Covers

Published:

There are numerous advantages to heating a pond over the winter months: keeping your filter bacteria active and being able to feed your Koi all year round are just some of the obvious ones. There has always been debate as to whether Koi hybernate during the colder season or not, however keeping your pond at a reasonable temperature has great benefits for the fish. Feeding the Koi over the cold season, which seems to be getting longer and longer with slightly more mild temperatures, is a sure way to keep their vitamin levels sustained and you are able to be feed them a more comprehensive range of foods necessary for their immune system and health.

 Winter Koi Pond Cover

During the winter months it is recommended that you insulate your pond and maintain a higher water temperature even if your pond is not heated. This can be achieved by installing a Solar Weave Winter Koi Pond Cover.

We can supply you with a 400-micron heat retention cover which is fitted with a transparent woven top sheet for added strength. These Winter Koi Pond Covers are custom made to fit your pond exactly and will allow a minimum of 85% UV penetration. Each cover has a reinforced edge and is available with draining holes, a choice of secure fitting systems and support straps if necessary. The area between the water's surface and the Solar Weave Koi Pond Cover will retain the heat in much the same way as a greenhouse.

Please contact us for a quotation (info@dankoi.com) or 01522 811330 and we will be happy to discuss all the options regarding fittings and fastenings with you. Any shape or size of Koi pond can be catered for.

The Solar Weave Winter Koi Pond Cover can be securely fixed to concrete, stone or brickwork using a strap and buckle system or paired eyelets with elastic cord together with the use of an expanding anchorage system which can be capped when the cover is removed. Alternatively covers can be fixed in place in directly into the ground with the use of galvanised stakes enabling the covers to be securely fastened into lawns and earth. The eyelets can also be used where a fixing to wood is required.

Advice:

For the most cost effective cover it is advisable to keep the shape as simple as possible. For more difficult shapes it may be necessary to use a template. Support straps are available, and are installed across the pond before the Koi Pond Cover is fitted, this is to reduce any sag in the cover and to ensure that the cover remains above the ponds water surface.
