Sangatsu-Do
The Sangatsu-Do is without doubt a large and impressive lantern. The "Sangatsu-do" Japanese Lantern is a classic styled ancient "Tachidata" or pedestal lantern which is normally used at Japanese Buddhist temples to which the carvings on the sides relate.
The Sangatso-Do latern's primary function is to act as a guardian to the entrance to temples, however, it can also be seen throughout Japan at the entrance to many tea gardens.
